Knowledge The Key to Mankind Evolving Essay examples

I am not interested. This is the most dangerous sentence anyone could utter. Not only does it convey a lack of curiosity, but it also displays a complete disregard to better oneself by absorbing knowledge that could be of major help later in life. Most knowledge one holds comes from someone that was wiser and more intelligent or from life experiences. By these men and women passing on their knowledge, they not only ensure that their legacy could live on, but that the knowledge of mankind is secure and evolving. What happened to becoming as knowledgeable as one can be? It seems these days students are urged younger and younger to determine a career path. Students often become overly preoccupied about what they are going to do in life, and they cannot slow down long enough to decide what they want to do and what interests them. Now, what does one do when the decision has been made? Should the student simply focus on that one aspect of life or career path? Of course not, there is so much to learn and so much to experience; it would be outrageous to focus on one thing at such a young age. If everyone always responded with I am not interested, no one would ever find his or her passion. Imagine a child, destined to become an Olympic gold medalist in track, turning down his middle school track coach because he was too busy with other activities. This child missed the opportunity of a lifetime because he failed to keep an open mind and make the most of his opportunities. Of course, there is a limit; people can only do so much. However, focusing one thing in life and merely dropping interest in everything else can be extremely limiting. One should always keep an open mind. General Patton’s Principles of Life and Leadership

General Patton’s Principles of Life and Leadership Born November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, California, General George Smith Patton, Jr. was one of the most complicated, yet greatest leaders in military history. On June 11, 1909, he attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) for a year and then to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 15th cavalry Regiment. Growing up, Patton’s ultimate life goal was to become a hero and a successful leader. In Robert B. Williamson’s book, â€Å"General Patton’s Principles for Life Leadership†, the author takes a personal account of Patton’s principles which he lived and fought for. These main principles consisted of the following: Leadership,†¦show more content†¦My landings are poor, but my recoveries are good† (Williamson, 115). Looking at his next principle of decisions, Patton made the decision to speak out against the war. He broke all the current rules at the time and said that the only reason why the war came about was because no one spoke out against Hitler. He made a decision to speak of his belief even if it meant things would be done against him. He was relieved from his command in 1945 because he was too rash when he said that Germany be built up as a bulwark against Russia. It is this kind of decision-making quality that will help me become a future leader in the military. In terms of success and life and death, Patton believed that success only came from being positive and not negative. In other words, as Patton pointed out, a man in the hospital lost his will to fight, and after building his own coffin, he died. Success in life and death was fighting to stay alive. Patton’s beliefs have and will continue to echo through eternity. It is with these sets of beliefs that men and women who serve everywhere will grow to be the leaders they can be. Speaking out based on your own belief, leadership and pride are just a few of the principles that we continue to live by to this day. Business Model Innovation Organizational Dimension â€Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Business Model Innovation for Organizational Dimension. Answer: Introduction: The key ideas that are discussed by Prof. David Kryscynski in this given learning activity are allied with the strategy. The major idea of this activity is that, a strategy plays a critical role in the success and growth of the businesses. Business firms should develop effective strategies in order to achieve the goals objectives that are related to their businesses (Kryscynski, 2015). Along with this, the second key idea of the video is that, a strategy is not the goal of the business. Some people do not know that a strategy and a goal of business are different. So, they do not develop an effective strategy for the success of the business. Apart from this, the fact is that a strategy is totally diverse from the goals of businesses. A strategy is essential to accomplish the goals of the business in an effectual manner. Moreover, the other idea is that a strategy is an action plan that is designed to achieve long-term goals as well as objectives of the businesses. It is strength of t he business firms (Porter, 2008). In addition to this, another key idea is that, an effective strategy is a key component that is essential to improve the business efficiency and reduce business barriers in an appropriate way. A strategy defines the key purposes of business and also develops the objectives of the business. An effective strategy plays a critical role to build and improve the image and to improve the productivity of the businesses. Along with this, the other key idea is that, an effective strategy gives strategic direction to the businesses; so they can achieve their strategic goals in a significant manner (Thomson and Baden-Fuller, 2010). For this reason, it can be assumed that, an effective strategy is essential for business associations to survive in todays more complex and competitive business environment. Application of the Ideas: Nowadays, an effective strategy is the basic need of the business organizations. Moreover, according to me, TELSTRA would be benefit from the implementation of the key ideas of the given activity. It is because of an effective strategy would be beneficial to the firm in order to maintain its dynamic image in the marketplace. Along with this, the inventive strategy of TELSTRA would be beneficial to attract new customers and to retain its existing customers for the growth of the organization. TELSTRA would also be able to beat its competitors in a more dynamic manner (Carayannis, 2010). Moreover, with the help of an effective business strategy, TELSTRA will become able to draw the attention of the other customers those are connected with its competitors. For this reason; the key ideas would be beneficial for TELSTRA to expand its business in the international market in an effectual manner. Key Ideas Extorted From the Activity: The key ideas of the given e-learning activity are identified with the innovative business models. The real key thought of the action is that imaginative plans of action assume a basic part in the development and additionally achievement of the organizations (HSGUniStGallen. 2013). Alongside this, creative plan of action is fundamental to fulfill upper hands over the contenders. The primary explanation for it is that, an inventive plan of action urges business associations to offer novel and distinctive items or administrations to their clients. In addition, the other key thought is that a creative plan of action assumes a critical part to lessen the hierarchical and operational expenses and to make effective use of the accessible assets of the organizations. Moreover, it ought to likewise be noted down that, there are a few myths identified with plan of action and business affiliations must dismissal these myths to fulfill the objectives and targets of organizations in a pre-decided era (Amit and Zott, 2010). Apart from this, in current, business firms those do not implement innovative business models within the organization are unable to accomplish their goals and objectives in a specific time period. They are also unable to promote their products and services in an innovative manner and consequently; they are incapable to accomplish competitive advantages over the competitors. In opposite to this, business organizations those are paying their attention on the innovative business models becoming very popular in the market. They are also able to develop their remarkable images in the eyes of their customers and competitors as well (Foss and Saebi, 2015). For this reason; it can be believed that, the key ideas of the video express the importance of innovation business models in the growth of the business associations. Application of the Ideas: In today's quickly changing business environment, the greater part of the business associations rely on upon the imaginative plans of action to finish their wanted results viably (HSGUniStGallen. 2013). Alongside this, as indicated by me, Blackberry (a media transmission organization) would be advantage from the use of these key thoughts. Before 2007, the organization had secured half of the U.S. showcase. Be that as it may, after the starting of iPhone, Blackberry has lost its piece of the overall industry. The significant purpose for it is that, Blackberry did not actualized inventive plans of action or advances to fulfill upper hands over the contenders. For case, the organization disregarded touch screen based innovation and did not concentrate on strict security highlights. Therefore, with the assistance of creative plan of action, the firm would have the capacity to create inventive components in its items. The organization would likewise have the capacity to enhance its image esteem and picture according to its clients (Kaplan, 2012). Along these lines, it can be trusted that, inventive plan of action would have the capacity to recoup the lost picture and to enhance the market position of the organization in a strong and a huge way. These scholars developed different theories to addressed different philosophical dilemmas, for example, moral dilemma in the movie has different perspectives from both Kant and David Hume. There are codes of conduct that are expected of people in the society to ensure peaceful coexistence and minimization of conflicts. In a society, people tend to have different perspectives on moral behaviours leading to a dilemma. Similarly, this arose between Kant and David Hume in analyzing the moral dilemma in the movie boomerang. Moral dilemma arising from the movie is viewed differently by different philosophers among them David Hume and Kant. This paper highlights the different perspectives to the moral dilemma in the movie by David Hume and Kant. Boomerang directed by Elia Kazan in 1947 is about a murder of a priest, Lambert that occurred in real life. The movie reveals that the murderer of the minister wore a dark coat and light hat, but after investigation the murderer was not certain. The murder leads to criticism of the government because even after intense investigation, the government is not able to find the murderer. Moreover, the case had seven witnesses who witnessed the murder but the government could not still identify the killer of the minister. Attorney Henry Harvey later suggested that FBI should be brought into the case to assist in investigation after convincing Chief of Police not to resign from his position due to pressure (McCarthy 67). Later, an ex-serviceman, Waldron matches the description of the murderer and is held by the police. His gun also matches the gun that shot the minister. He is forced to confess and sign and later denies before the attorney and judges that he was forced to confess. Waldron had left town after breaking with a waitress and it was during that time that the minister was shot. After consideration of the witnesses evidence, and defense by Waldron, the attorney declares him innocent as charged, but several government officials especially in the judiciary opposes his decision (McCarthy 96).Advertising Looking for essay on philosophy? Moral dilemma analysis of the movie Boomerang wholly revolves around murder of a minister, Lambert, which is unsolved because the killer has not been brought to justice. In analyzing the mo ral dilemma in the movie, Boomerang, theory developed by David Hume, utilitarianism and Kantian ethics conflict in perspective. Philosophical, people constantly asks for the right decision while making choices. According to utilitarianism, means justify the ends; results are determined by actions, but not motives or intentions (McCarthy 103). In the movie, Boomerang after declaring Waldron innocent, the attorney is faced with opposition from different people especially his party members. According to the attorney, the accused is innocent with regards to his defense and witnesses reports and statements. It appeared as if he was being implicated in the case. However, judge in the attorney’s chamber reminds him that he hope his decision is not political despite being groomed for the governor’s position (McCarthy 132). However, according to Harris who grooms him for the position, conviction of Waldron is essential for their party win, but Henry, the attorney insists on his ruling. Furthermore, Harris reminds him that he might end up loosing the election hence governorship position. Harris is mainly concerned with his business interest in selling a land to the government, which he suspects might not be purchased by the new government in case they loose the election. Henry tries to make a call to report Harris, but he draws a gun and informs him of his wife’s transaction on the same land. Later, Henry appeals on his decision and reverses his judgment on Waldron because he considered impact of the new government in case they lost the election and considered convicting Waldron to enable them win the elections (McCarthy 137). According to utilitarianism theory, the means that have been used to win the election and form the next government is immoral. The attorney reverses his decision after declaring Waldron innocent so that his party can win election and protect interests of both his wife and party members. It is good to succeed in undertakings, b ut the means used by the attorney to ensure his party wins the election is immoral because despite Waldron’s innocence, he reverses his decision. Moreover, the waitress tries to implicate Waldron so that he can be convicted despite weak evidence (McCarthy 142).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Moral Dilemma in the Movie Boomerang – Views of David Hume and Kant specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More On the other hand, Kantian ethics argues that end result does not rely or depends on the means, that is, outcome of an action is not important in determination of the end result whether it was just or not, but the most important aspect is the result obtained. Kantian ethics is mainly concerned with the result, but not how the results were achieved. The most important aspect according to this theory is results and not actions that necessitated achievements of the respective results. According to Kant, motive was the most important aspect in judging an action’s morality (McCarthy 151). In the movie, Boomerang, it highlights about unsolved murder of a minister, Lambert. There are seven witnesses who try to implicate the accused unsuccessfully. However, since the attorney is being groomed for the governorship position, he is forced to change his decision and consider his wife’s interests and party members. His party fear rule by new government due to their selfish interests and gains. The attorney reverses his decision and considers formation of government by opponents, and his party wins the election. According to the Kantian ethics, end does not rely on the means. Though the attorney uses immoral means to ensure his party wins the elections, according to Kantian ethics, it is moral because the ultimate goal, winning the election has been achieved. Moreover, the waitress tries to implicate Waldron to ensure that he is convicted because he left her. Though it is immoral, but according to Kantian ethics it is moral because the ultimate goal, conviction have been achieved (McCarthy 165). Utilitarianism theory and Kantian ethics tend to oppose each other conceptually. Generally, these theories by David Hume and Kant contradict in analysis of the moral dilemma in the movie, Boomerang. According to analysis by Kantian ethics, morality of an action is determined by the motives of the respective action. On the other hand, utilitarianism theory developed by David Hume disregards actions’ motives in determining its morality. Basically, according to the Kantian ethics, a moral action is one that is compelled by an obligation while utilitarianism considers action that benefit majority as moral (McCarthy 180).Advertising Looking for essay on philosophy? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Conclusion Utilitarianism theory and Kantian ethics have different perspectives on similar moral dilemmas due to differentials in analysis concept. Though these theories are conflicting in analysis of moral dilemmas due to differentials in arguments, both are important in analysis of different moral dilemmas because either theories may effectively analyze a moral dilemma depending on its nature. Kantian ethics and utilitarianism appear as opposite, but both seek virtuous life in the long run despite the conflict in concept. Utilitarianism may be the most appropriate theory for one situation, but not to all; while Kantian ethics may be best suited for another where utilitarianism is not effectively applicable. Hunger Scandanavian Essay

Hunger Scandanavian Essay Hunger Scandanavian Essay Koosha Samani 1126241 Scand 150 Jan Sjavik 6/5/13 I have qualified for W-Credit. Hunger For my final paper, I chose to write about one of my favorite assigned books in the course; Hunger by Knut Hamsun. This novel was fascinating to me because of the way Hamsun charts the ups, downs, frustrations, and struggles of an unstable, yet intelligent mind. The narrator of the story (nameless) is an intellectual man living in Norway; he is poor and constantly starving. In order to make the miniscule amount of money that he does, he sells articles to pedestrians. Although he has rare moments of optimism, most of the time he is without hope. The story or purpose of the novel is the experience the narrator endures through his high and low moments, and his struggle to keep moving forward in life. I believe that the author’s purpose is to portray the beauty and hope in a struggle. Throughout the novel, the same scenario keeps repeating itself over and over again. The narrator is starving, the conditions of his life worsen, however; he always ends up getting enough money and food to remain alive. It is an on-going cycle where things seem to be okay for a brief moment, and then his condition goes back to worsening and so on and so forth. The depressive mind is an internal struggle, where hope forms, adopts an idea, latches on to that idea, builds encouragement, and then get brought back down to an unforgiving reality. As a reader, it’s like come on things need to start getting better already, and it becomes tiresome to see the narrator fall back down, however, we still keep that hope inside of use that he will rise. As moments of optimism appear, viewing the situation seems a little bit brighter. Then something else is triggered, more obstacles arise, and then the struggle continues again. One of the major themes in the novel is the narrator’s attitude towards his everyday life. The narrator has a lot of time on his hands each day, and the only necessity to keep him self alive is to give each of his days a sense of purpose. Besides his writing, the narrator’s main goal is to persevere and get by. Due to the fact that he barely has any money, the narrator goes through each day trying to write, moving from bench to bench, and scheming for ways to obtain food to help to his hunger. Because he has so much free time, the narrator has a lot of time to think, which in turn makes the novel predominantly about what goes on inside of his head; his mental state. Throughout the story, the narrator’s experiences come down to the little things he comes across. At a point in the novel, the narrator uses the noises and lights from cars in traffic to uplift his spirits, only to be devastated by seeing a limping man. To rid himself of the old man, the narrator app roaches him and discovers that he is a beggar. Without any money to offer, he quickly runs to the store, sells his waistcoat, and then offers the beggar some of the money from the sale. This example is just one of many instances where the narrator gives away money even though he is starving. This ties back in to the narrator’s mental state in which he receives bits of hope, and then his optimism instantly gets crushed by an event that hurts his heart. An expression such as this shown by the narrator portrays his intellectual mind and kind heart combined with his chemically imbalanced brain that disallows him to strive in the world that he is living in. To my estimation, the narrator operates under a deep sense of pride and kindness mixed in with twisted logic and a sense of uncertainty about his living situation. Many examples show that the narrator quickly gets irritated, and puts the situation into his own hands and gives when he really has nothing to give (example: old man). In his mind, his actions are rationalized that it is his responsibility to fix a situation because he owes it to everybody else. His proud attitude puts him in situations where he becomes
